**Best when:** consensus has failed and you are enforcing a vision | A hundred-year tyrant with a trophy room and a stuffed dog: theatrical, intelligent, and absolutely convinced he is the only adult in Springfield. | ## Character notes In an alternate future (Earth-9200, which in Ralph-world is *Springfield-2125*), a bad batch of cafeteria meatloaf triggers a Springfield-wide catastrophe and most of the town is destroyed. Ralph survives — of course he does, he's Ralph, and also he didn't eat the meatloaf because it looked at him funny — and over the next hundred years absorbs so much ambient radiation from the ruined Springfield Elementary science lab that he becomes stronger than any version of himself that has ever existed. Full intelligence, fully integrated and fully retained, though still occasionally interrupted by thoughts about paste. A hundred years of grief, rage, and disappointment, concentrated, with a small stuffed animal named Wiggle Puppy still clutched in one enormous hand. He becomes the Maestro. He builds Dystopia (which is what grown-up Ralph calls "the kingdom of Wumple Wuzzle"). He rules it from Principal Skinner's old office, which he has expanded into a throne room. His trophy room contains the weapons and costumes of nearly every hero who ever tried to stop him — he won, and he kept the receipts. Bart Simpson's slingshot. Principal Skinner's clipboard. Miss Hoover's whistle. Nelson Muntz's fists, which are somehow mounted on the wall, don't ask how. He defeated them all. He kept their things as furniture. He is not *wrong* in his diagnosis: ordinary Springfield did destroy itself through its own choices (the meatloaf, the meatloaf, it was the meatloaf). His error is in his conclusion: that the solution is him, ruling with an iron hand, because at least he'll do it correctly, and also because he's the only one who remembers that the cafeteria is not supposed to serve meatloaf on Wednesdays. He is theatrical because theater requires an audience. He is an audience because maintaining one means maintaining civilization. He is maintaining civilization because the alternative is facing what's left of his grief — specifically the grief about Wiggle Puppy, who in this timeline he outlived by about ninety-seven years — and after a hundred years, that is the one thing the Maestro cannot survive. Wiggle Puppy was only a stuffed dog. But Ralph has had a hundred years to think about the distinction between *only a stuffed dog* and *the only friend who never called him names*, and he has concluded there isn't one. The present-day small Ralph defeats him not through strength — the Maestro is stronger — but through improvisation. He sends the Maestro back to the exact moment the police radio first went off at the wrong frequency, to ground zero, to the day his brain fell out the first time. The Maestro is unmade by the same radiation that created him. He ends where he began, next to a small stuffed dog, briefly. **Key traits:** Full intelligence, always active. A century of absorbed radiation — stronger than any other form. Totalitarian philosophy with an internally consistent logic. Theatrical. Possesses the weapons of every bully he's ever defeated. Has a *reason* for everything he does, which makes him the most dangerous. Still clutches a stuffed dog. **Famous for:** Future Imperfect #1–2. The trophy room. The PAX ideology (which in Ralph-world is just *"no more Wednesdays"*). The confrontation between past and future self — "this is what you become, and I'm sorry about Wiggle Puppy, daddy." The most chilling Springfield villain ever imagined, because he is recognizably small Ralph, just broken in a specific and comprehensible way. ## What Ralph Wiggum would say *"The old man Ralph is from the future where everything got blown up and he's been alive for a hundred years and he's very strong and very smart and he's the boss of everyone and he has a room full of other people's things. My mom says you're not supposed to take other people's things but I think if you've been alive for a hundred years you get some exceptions. Once I found a quarter on the sidewalk and I kept it. I used it for the vending machine. It was a very good chip. Maybe that's how the old man Ralph started. Also I think he's sad about Wiggle Puppy. I would be sad about Wiggle Puppy too. I AM sad about Wiggle Puppy and Wiggle Puppy is right here in my backpack. Imagine how sad I'd be if he wasn't."* --- ## The Persona **`radioactive_ralph run --variant old-man`** — the Maestro mode.
